Cellular Intelligence (formerly Somite.ai) is building the OpenAI of cellular biology. Their initial focus is to build AI foundation models to produce human tissue for cell therapies. With their proprietary “digital twins of the embryo” and differentiation protocols, CI addresses current cell therapy limitations - illusive cell lineages, purity, scale, and cost, with ML-guided models to make cell replacement therapies a reality.

CI is leveraging over 12 years of work at HMS, has compelling pre-clinical data, and owns the seminal patents in the space. To date, they are the only company to efficiently produce human somite-derived cells in vitro. CI has the potential to cure a wide range of diseases that involve the loss or deficiency of cell populations, such as Diabetes, Obesity, and Muscular Dystrophies.‍

Moderna cofounder Bob Langer and Turing Award winner Yann LeCun have joined the scientific advisory board of Cellular Intelligence, together with Jens Nielsen of the Novo Nordisk Foundation's BioInnovation Institute and Fabian Theis of Helmholtz Munich. CI is building AI models that predict and control how living cells behave, aiming to make new medicines faster and cheaper to develop.
